Shimaoshan Gr
Type Locality and Naming
Eastern Fujian. The Shimaoshan Group is named by the Geological Survey Team of Fujian in 1966. The type locality is at the junction part of the Minqing, Minhou and Yongtai counties. The Shimaoshan Group is separated as the Huangkeng Fm, Zaixia Fm (Zhaixia Fm) and Shiniushan Fm in ascending order.
Lithology and Thickness
The Shimaoshan Group is dominated by a group of purple red volcanic-sedimentary rocks in great thickness. It is mostly composed of rhyolite or andesite tuff, rhyolite lava, tuffaceous sandy conglomerate, and sandy mudstone. It locally contains andesitic basalt.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation shows a remarkable angular discordance with the underlying Nanyuan Gr (Xiaoxi Fm) or older strata.
Upper contact
It is overlain disconformably by tuffaceous sandstone of the Shiniushan Fm.
